Smith Creek (2007)

Smith Creek, located northeast of Graeagle within the Goldridge Estates and Smith Ranch, is an important fishery and a tributary to the Wild and Scenic Middle Fork Feather River.  Project design consisted of pond and plug and bank stabilization restoration techniques.  Gully obliteration and installation of six floodplain access culverts at the upstream bridge was completed in 2007. Bank stabilization with boulder vanes and vegetation along a 700 foot channel segment to reduce bank erosion downstream is scheduled to be constructed in September 2008. Total project budget is $252,000 funded by SWRCB Proposition 40 Non-point Source Pollution funds provided for a complex of projects within the Upper Middle Fork Feather River watershed, including Smith Creek.  Ten landowners in partnership with Trout Unlimited (TU) are involved in the project.  Landowners and TU contributed time and funding to the preliminary design surveys, environmental surveys and reports, fish monitoring surveys, fish moving during construction, and re-vegetation efforts.
