Education

In 2001, the Feather River CRM established an Education Committee to further education efforts through the implementation of community and school-based education programs throughout the watershed.  Public education is an essential element to the success of the FRCRM program.  The Feather River CRM received $110,000 from the Department of Water Resources in 2004, and another $33,700 from the Plumas County Watershed Forum in 2005, for education and citizen monitoring programs.  These funding agreements were for two and one year(s), respectively.  In 2007, $37,490 was secured through PL106-393 Secure Rural Schools Title II (RAC) funds to continue Watershed Stewardship through Education and Outreach for two years.  Additional RAC funds have been secured (2010-2012) to support school-based environmental watershed education programs, including Plumas to the Pacific and Students As Stewards for Plumas Unified School District 6th-12th grade students. The FRCRM was awarded education funds by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (Prop. 84) for $99,544 in 2009.  These funds supported school-based and community education work for three and half years (2009-2012).  To date, education efforts have been sustained through volunteer/partner support, and project-specific funding.
